Whoever want to escape meter long queues at the entrance of public swimming pools in Vienna and avoid crowded lying meadows and basins, can enjoy the numerous and free nature swimming spots of the city. The high level of water quality ensures the ongoing monitoring of the bathing water.

Old Danube

Closed in the mid-1980s as public bath was just last year freely accessible as a public lawn for all Viennese. Situated on the right bank of the Upper Old Danube, the meadow is easy to reach on public transport, Subway Line U1, U6 and the Bus Line 20A and 20B.

Kaiserwasser

The wild swimming spotKaiserwasser” is a tributary of the Old Danube and is located very close to the Danube City. Accessible by Subway Line U1 to Station Kaisermühlen.

Apart from the swimming spots on the Old Danube, around 500 sailing, pedal and rowing boats are available. Easy to reach with Subway Line U2 to Station Alte Donau. Culinary options include around 40 dining establishments, primarily located on the waterfront.

Lagerwiese Romaplatz

One of the most popular places on the Old Danube is the sprawling Lagerwiese Romaplatz. Numerous trees provide shade to visitors and public restrooms are available. To reach with Subway Line U6 Neue Donau. Located between the Gasthaus Birner and Arbeiterstrandbadstrasse / Angelibad.

Donauinsel

The artificial island located between the Danube and the New Danube is part of Vienna’s flood protection. The generous leisure offering range from beaches and bays, barbeque areas to sports options on continuously asphalted paths for biking, hiking, jogging or roller blading. Easily reachable by Subway Line U1 to Station Donauinsel.

The shallow waters of Panozzalacke is ideal for families with children. The spacious play and sunbathing area offers enough room.

Dechantlacke

Idyllically located between the riparian forest is the Dechantlacke. The wild beach with its small island is especially popular with nude bathers.
