What could be better than strolling through a Christmas market in the run-up to Christmas, drinking a punch, looking at the various stands and admiring the lights?
Christmas smells and bright lights wrap up this year from November 22 to December 26 the Maria Theresien-Platz. In 2017, the Christmas Festival Maria-Theresien-Platz between the well-known Natural History and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Vienna Ring and the Museumsquartier (MQ) will open its doors for the eleventh time.
Christmas Village between the Museums
In the midst of these impressive sights, visitors can comfortably get into the Christmas spirit between the festively decorated stalls. The traditionally opulently decorated festival area with its many small and large, festively lit Christmas trees not only makes children’s eyes shine. The Christmas Village has to offer even more for the kids. Children can participate in the children’s program of the Natural & Art History Museum.
In addition to delicious, fragrant punch and mulled wine, the numerous stalls around the Maria Theresien Monument offer not only regional delicacies but also unusual gifts and craftsmanship. In addition to the Christmas scents, the atmospheric scenery and the music invite you to linger and dream.
The market stalls are open Sunday to Thursday and public holidays from 11:00am to 09:00pm and Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 10:00pm. On December 24th, the doors of the Advent Market are open from 11:00am to 04:00pm and on December 25th and 26th from 11:00am to 07:00pm.
Not only tourists visit the festive Christmas village to enjoy the various treats and punch, the Viennese also enjoy the imposing view of Imperial Palace and Museumsquarter. The Christmas village is also easy to reach, as the city center is well connected to the public transport network. If you are not only into the mood for Christmas kitsch, you can also combine your visit to the market with a visit to the museums, which rise to both sides of the market. In the Art History Museum, visitors will find what they are looking for, while in the Natural History Museum an impressive collection from the dinosaur skeleton to the meteorite tells exciting stories about our world.
